Yesterday, I had my brother and his wife visiting from Texas... heat birds? When they come to Buffalo I try to think of a fun place near water for them to experience. This trip I went for a combo: fun place/not far from water. And I have been very curious about the new food menu at Custard Corner.
My brother had the Polish sausage with slaw. He said it was excellent for the price. His wife had a big salad. She didn't think she'd ordered with chicken, but there was cubed chicken on it. Very fresh, lettuce, tomatoes, green pepper, cucumber. It was a huge salad, and she loved it, said she expected, for the price, a salad half the size. I had the veggie burger. It was very good, and I will definitely get it again.
We got our meals to go, then back in the car drove to the end of Porter Avenue, turning onto Amvets Drive. About halfway along the channel we spotted a picnic bench. For the next couple of hours we enjoyed a lovely lunch, watched a sailing class having fun trying not to tip over their boats. Some managed to stay upright; some seemed to be trying for any excuse to jump in the water. We watch ducks and geese, saw a diving cormorant stay underwater much longer than seemed possible, but Oh, Look! There he is.
We thought we might, on the way back to my place, stop back at Custard Corner for dessert. It didn't work out that way as no one had room enough for ice cream. Perhaps when they visit next year we'll have ice cream first, then see if we have room for lunch. -

Very very slow. A small stand near the Peace Bridge with about 8 picnic table to sit at while you wait.

My husband and I came here to try the Yelp Ice Cream Adventure Special and some food. It's a cute little ice cream shack with a seating area across from it.
I tried the #4 Haddock & Fries combo with a drink. The fish sand which was ok. It's not the best I've had in Buffalo. I ordered mine with no veggies. Cheese and tartar sauce only. The same way I order a fish sand which anywhere else. The fries smelled and looked really good, but tasted a little undercooked. They could've used another min of cooking.
My husband got a #2 Quarter Pound Cheeseburger with bacon, fries and a drink. He liked it. He said his fries were ok. He didn't think his tasted undercooked.
Now. The Yelp Special. It was good. It's Vanilla Custard mixed with Caramel Sauce, Pecans, Spiced Apple chunks and topped with Pecans. But I have one complaint and also a question. Why would they choose to put Pecans (a tree nut) in it? Tree Nuts are a major food allergy. It seems like by putting a tree nut in their special, they are limiting how many people can eat it. -

Visited for the first time today. It's definitely your average ice cream shop. There was no wait, and you order from a window on the building. My boyfriend and I ordered a plain vanilla shake and it was pretty tasty, although it's not hard to fail at preparing a vanilla shake. Needless to say, we were satisfied. The ice cream came out quickly and ordering was efficient. We also noticed they serve other fried foods like hot dogs, burgers, and fries. We hadn't eaten lunch yet, but we still passed on the food. A few other customers opted for the food though, and it seemed decent. Given the location, I think this shop is a convenient location serving convenient items. Will likely visit again given it's location (we're in that part of town often).

This place is really expensive for basic items, I can get ice cream elsewhere for half the price. I ordered chicken fingers and fries tonight, paid over $9 for them, and they arrived really over cooked, burned in some spots. I ordered to-go and unfortunately didn't realize the error until I got home, otherwise I would've requested a refund. Disappointing and a waste of money.
